Defying a theory of the death of the author, this “little book”, celebrating the 200th birthday of Charles Dickens, proves that he lives on and still inspires ever newer generations of scholars. Individually, essays contained in this collection explore various aspects of celebration, among others the Polish reception of Dickens’s anniversaries, a depiction of Christmas, his favourite holiday, his views on alcohol consumption, glorification of things, or sartorial, bodily and intertextual diversions his novels allow.
